You must also make sure to stay away from foods that are high in salt. Sodium helps to retain water in your body and at this point in time it is something that your body does not need in high quantities. Foods that are high in salt include fast foods like chicken wings, chips, pickles, olives and any foods with preservatives.

In order to reduce the water retention in your body you must make sure that you exercise. Moving more than you need to during your periods seems to be unnecessary according to you; but it is extremely important that your body get the right amount of exercise in order to avoid retaining water. It is important that you are active even during your periods. This helps to ease cramps as well.

Avoid caffeine in all forms during your periods. Teas, coffees and chocolates are the main sources of caffeine so is carbonated drinks. You must make sure that you avoid these drinks as far as possible to help retain lesser water in your body. Substitute chocolate with dry fruits like dates and raisins. They satisfy your craving for sweets at the same time they help to increase your energy levels.
