How to Avoid Getting a Backache
August 8, 2009
Most of us are prone to get mild and severe backaches at some time of our lives. However if we take good care of the way we do things and our different manners we can easily avoid getting backaches.
The first tip that we can follow to avoid getting a backache is to never lift up anything from the ground by bending our back directly. Instead we should bend our knees and then bend down to pick up an object. It is also suggested that people who are prone to backaches can keep things they need often at a little height above the floor. It helps if one keeps the dustbin in the kitchen and other rooms on a platform so as to avoid awkward bending.
The next tip to avoid a backache is to take care of our posture. It is best to avoid high heeled slippers and shoes and instead go in for platform heels. Platform heels protect your back better. Besides, it would be best to avoid using heels and go in for flat slippers, sandals and shoes.
We should take special care of our posture when we work on the computer too. One can sit in an erect posture while working on the computer. This would avoid getting backaches. Besides if you wear reading or sight glasses it is best to go in for progressive lens glasses. Special care should also be taken when we watch the television.
It is best to sit or lie down in a comfortable posture instead of bending and lying down in an odd posture on the sofa. The next tip to avoid getting a backache is to take care of the mattress you use on your bed. It is advisable you use a firm Cotton or Coir mattress and avoid the use of soft, uneven and rubberized mattress. It may even be advisable to lie on a flat bed with no mattress or lie on the floor on a mat or carpet.
In addition it is best to take the tip of sitting down on a medium sized stool to take out things from the refrigerator or cupboards or when picking books from different heights in a library. The same applies to sitting on stools while having a bath under the shower.
You should take care of your back even while travelling to avoid getting a backache. Make sure you sit with your back resting properly on the seat when you travel by public transport or car or your two wheeler. If you already have a tendency for backaches it is best to avoid bumpy roads. If this is not possible it is best to put a cushion to support the back and also fasten your seat belt.
Hence, do take care of your back by following all these tips and avoid getting a backache.
