If you suffer from asthma then you will constantly experience shortness of breath, wheezing and even have a slight cough. The key to avoiding an attack is to ensure that you eliminate the possibility of any contact with the triggers.

The first thing that you need to do is analyze the things that act as triggers. Foods play an important role here. There are several foods that trigger attacks and they must be avoided completely. Sea foods, dairy, nuts, soy products, eggs and milk are common foods that trigger asthma attacks. As far as possible one must avoid these foods if they notice allergic reactions to any of these food groups.

There are a few other ways that you could eliminate the risk of an asthma attack. Pollen is one of the factors that can cause an allergic reaction and hence one must try and avoid pollen from entering into your living space. Use an air condition or filters whenever possible. Air conditioning also reduces dust mites in the house; this is another way to prevent an asthma attack. You also need to keep the filters of your air conditioner clean. This will help to eliminate dirt and dust from entering into your house.

Change in weather can lead to asthma attacks. Those who suffer from asthma dread the winter months and they have every right to do so. The percent of asthma attacks in winter increase by 70%. During the colder months of the year you must ensure that you wear appropriate clothing. Keep yourself warm and always cover your head. This will reduce the risk of an attack.

If you are a smoker then you will need to quit smoking if you want to minimize your risk of an asthma attack. Social smoking and second hand smoke are equally harmful. You also need to be careful about the type of cleaning products you use when you are at home. Avoid using aerosols especially if you are using pesticides.
