All in all this condition is a very painful condition and you should have it seen to immediately as it could lead to further complications and the spread of the infection to other teeth, the jaw, throat and the face. It could also lead to other health issues if not dealt with promptly and could turn into a fatal infection so visit a dentist the first chance you get to do so.

Some of the symptoms of an abscessed tooth would include but are not limited to severe tooth pain, red or bleeding gums, sudden sharp pain and severe headaches caused due to food particles touching the exposed nerves.

The best way to treat an abscessed tooth would be to seek professional help. Get your tooth looked at immediately. If the infection has spread and there are no changes of saving the tooth your dentist might also advise that you have the tooth extracted to prevent the infection from getting into your gums. If you’re lucky then you might get off with a root canal procedure where he would drill into the tooth to allow the infection to drain out from it. Once it has been drained out he would then cover the opening with a crown or a cap. Some dentists also make an incision in the gum as an alternative method to drain out the infection.

If you have been suffering from an abscessed tooth for a long time and have been avoiding visiting a dentist then it is recommended that you have the tooth extracted. Also make sure that you are prescribed adequate antibiotics to help counter the infection. Painkillers would also help you deal with the pain both before as well as after the extraction. Do not skip out or forget to take your medication as this would only allow the infection to get stronger and ensure that you complete the entire course prescribed by the dentist.

Another tip that would help lead to a faster recovery is to avoid spitting instead swallow your spittle. Rinse your mouth with salt and warm water but remember to avoid gargling.
