What is oily skin?
Oily skin is caused by over active gland producing sebum. A quick way to check if your skin is oily is to run a tissue over your face, if you see a lot of oil on t it means you have oily skin. Poor diet and less or no exercise may also be a contributing factor. Genetics are also a factor for oily skin.
Issues with oily skin:
Oily skin tends to be more probe to blemishes, acne and scars as the pores are larger and tend to get clogged faster.
Maintaining Oily skin:
Oily skin is difficult to maintain and if not taken care your skin will tend to age before time. A good way to maintain oily skin is to keep it well hydrated. Drink plenty of water, fresh fruit juices. Stay away from colas and fizzy drinks as they are high in sugar. Increase your intake of vegetable as nuts. Add plums and berries to your diet. Wash your face several times a day and keep your make up minimal. Before applying makeup, wash your face with warm water, towel try and then rub an ice cube all over your face. It will help keep your make up on for longer.
Use a glycerin based soap or adds a few drops of glycerin to your bath water. Steam your face daily before your bath and use a face pack twice a week.
A few home made suggestions are using milk to wash your face. A mixture of lemon juice, salt and water help to keep your face fresh.
If you have oily skin I would advice keeping a journal. Write down your daily diet and activities and the effects of it on your skin. You will be able to track the foods that are causing the breakout in your skin.
Remember do not try more than one new product or over the counter product at a time as you will not know the effect of them on your skin.
