How to Care for Yourself After Chemotherapy

The thought of going through chemotherapy sends a chill down your spine. This is a sure way to cure several forms of cancer. Every human body reacts differently to the treatment and hence one cannot predict the outcome of it. Some of the after effects of the therapy include loss of hair, weight loss constant vomiting blood, blood in the urine and stools and weakness. One must take utmost care of yourself after the treatment to ensure that you have a speedy recovery.

It would be nice to have someone to be there with you throughout the day and night in the first few days after the therapy. If you do not have a family member to count on, hire a help from the local hospital to watch over you just in case you are weak and need assistance.

The radiation tends to make you feel very tired so it is best if you sleep for as long as your body urges you to.

You will tend to lose a lot of weight after the treatment and thus you must eat a healthy well balanced diet with plenty of fruit and vegetable. Make sure to ask the doctor for a list of items that you should not be eating.

If you are suffering form breast cancer then you must wear a comfortable bra to ensure that the fabric does not brush against the tender skin and cause bleeding or pain.

Wear clothes that you are comfortable in. If you wear cosmetics, talcum powders and perfumes you must consult your doctor about what are the safe cosmetics and fragrances for you in the period immediately after the therapy.

Avoid bathing in extremely hot or cold water. Warm water will make you feel comfortable and will help you to relax after a bath as well.
