You do not need to go to a professional to get a color job on your hair and leave a big hole in your pocket. It is a simple procedure and you can do it at home all by yourself with a little practice, care and precaution.

Firstly do not wash your hair immediately before the color session. Wash your hair the night before and do not apply any conditioner. The trick is to get your hair to be a little stiffer than it would be with the use of the conditioner.

Instructions for application of the color are mentioned on the box. Simply mix the portions as mentioned and paint on to each section of your hair. Make sure you go lighter or darker gradually. Do not make dramatic changes like going from blonde to brunette in one sitting as it may not suit your features.

Preventive measures

Before applying the color take a strand test a few days prior to the session. Take a few strands of hair and apply the product. This is done to ensure that your skin does not have an allergic reaction to the chemicals in the product. If you sense a swelling of the skin or redness or itching in any manner it means your skin is having an allergic reaction and you should avoid using the product. If all is well you may proceed.

Make sure you have gloves on while applying the mixture. If they are not included in the box then make sure you buy a pair before hand.

If even a drop of the mixture touches the area around the eyes then wash it off immediately. If not taken care off it can cause permanent damage.
