Asthma is a breathing disorder where a person suffers shortness of breath. There are several triggers to the disorder and the most common are weight gain, environment and exercise. If you suffer from asthma your main job is to understand what triggers an attack and work on prevention and avoidance of the triggers.

Techniques to prevent asthma

You can start with meditation to ease any discomfort you may feel as a result of change in climatic conditions or weight. The breathing exercises that you practice during the meditative exercises will help you to strengthen your respiratory passage and makes your lungs stronger.

Exercising regularly helps to keep you fit. If the increase in pollen count or the climatic conditions bother you and trigger an attack then you must exercise indoors. Use a thread mill instead of jogging and practice yoga for other exercise routines.

Using an air conditioner instead of getting fresh air will help to reduce the possibility of an attack by pollen.

You must make sure that your surroundings are clear of dust mites, animal fur and feathers. Vacuum clean the carpets, rugs and linen regularly. Wash all linen in warm water to get rid of the possibility of dust mites.

Science and technology have progressed to a great extent. There are several machines available that will warn you of the possibilities of impending signs of an attack. Use these machines to detect the signs of an impending attack.

Smoking kills and if you are asthmatic and smoke you are asking for trouble. The smoke that you exhale with each puff increases your chances of an attack and hence you must quit immediately.

Opt for allergen immunotherapy, a therapy where you are immunized to prevent attacks caused by pollen, dust, cold winds and smoke. However, attacks caused by stress can only be prevented by you and hence you must take all the precautions to protect yourself by keeping yourself stress free.
