November 5, 2009
Psoriasis is a skin condition characterized by patches on the skin and scales forming on the skin. It occurs in both sexes from the age of 15 to 30 and fortunately is one of the only skin diseases that is not contagious.
When a person gets the infection they will notice an inflammation the skin and the area will be covered with fine sliver scales. The infection normally occurs on the feet, hands, arms, behind the ears and underneath the foot.
When diagnosed with this condition you need to avoid bathing until the infection clears. Soap must be completely avoided. You may have a shower but avoid soap completely. Sea baths are recommended and you may also apply sea water topically in order to clear the rash.
You may also use Epsom’s salt in water and have a sponge with this water. Use olive oil on the affected region after the sponge and avoid drying yourself with a towel as the friction of the towel on the skin may cause damage and worsen the skin condition.
With regards to your diet there are a few foods that you need to avoid in order to treat the skin getting aggravated by this condition. All fats, hydrogenated fats and animal fats must be avoided. This includes milk and milk products, eggs, butter, refined sugar, tea, coffee and other caffeine based drinks.
You must eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables as well as nuts and grains. Carrots, beetroots, cucumbers and grapes may be had in the solid or liquid state. When you notice the skin clearing from the rash you may start with milk and other milk products.
You will experience itching in the skin due to the skin. In order to get rid of this itching you must apply vitamin E oil to the skin topically. Gently rub the oil on the affected area in order to ease the itching and to help the skin to heal. You must also have Vitamin E supplements in order to get the required dose of the vitamin.
In order to get some relief from the burning sensation on the skin you can apply a generous amount of yogurt on the skin. Since it is cool it will help to soothe the skin and this will prevent the spread of the infection. Wash the yogurt with cold water; as a matter of fact avoid using warm or hot water on the skin in order to prevent the spread of the infection.
