A child suffering from fever gets drained out of every ounce of energy that it may have. They sleep longer and wake up unhappy and drowsy. The normal temperature of a child ranges from 37 degrees to 38 degrees and anything higher than that is cause for concern. I recommend taking your child to the doctor immediately rather than trying out any remedies at home. Home and herbal remedies can be done with the approval of the doctor.

For a high fever dip a washcloth in salt water and place it on the child’s forehead. It helps to lower the temperature. The salt acts as a cooling agent that helps to lower the body temperature.

A soup with chicken broth works best to get rid of a pesky fever. Boil water with a few chicken bits and add herbs like cardamom, cinnamon and bay leaves. The herbs will take care of eliminating any cough and cold that the child may experience. Add garlic cloves to the soup to take care of an upset stomach.

Make sure that the child is drinking plenty of fluids. Water is the best option; however you may add variety by giving the child fresh fruit juices like orange juice that helps to boost energy levels due to the high Vitamin C content. Sports drinks are a good option ass the contain electrodes that help to maintain the body’s hydration.

Feed the child bananas. The fruit helps to avoid constipation that is a common feature of a fever. Bananas also keep the child away from junk food which is a bad option even if your child is healthy.

Keep the child in bed and ensure that he rests well. I know its easier said than done, but you must try and negotiate with the child and make him understand how the rest will benefit him.

Use a vaporizer in the room to keep the room warm. This will also help to take care of a common cold.
