When I was a child I wondered what the white spots on my nails were. My parents told me that every time I told an untruth there would be a spot appearing on my nail so that they were aware of what I was doing. I feared these spots and though I spoke the truth I always found traces of them on my nails. No matter what I tried it was impossible to get rid of them. Growing up I realized that the spots were not what I was told they were but were a deficiency of a certain kind. I vowed never to trick my children.

Lack of calcium and zinc in your diet causes these ugly spots to appear. Pressure exerted on your nails during an accident or a manicure or pedicure can lead to these spots as well.

Home remedies to cure white spots on your nails

The most important thing for you to do is to increase the amount of zinc and calcium in your diet. Eating green leafy vegetables will help instantly. Fruits are rich in natural minerals, so I would recommend eating a few fruits as a snack everyday. If you are still not able to take care of the issue within 6 weeks then you must speak with a dietician about the issue and take supplements to help you out.

When you are exerting pressure on your hands like during household chores or while fixing your car wear protective gloves so that you avoid damage to your nails in the bargain.

Use a rich moisturizer on your hands and cover your nails well with it at night. This keeps the skin on your hands healthy. Use the same lotion each time after you wash your hands.

When the nails are already scarred there is one of two things that you can do. Either polish your nails to cover the spots or wait for them to grow out and cut your nails.
