Are you one of those persons who is quick to flare up? Have you even been in a situation where you blew your top off in public? If you think so, then you must read on. Anger is a justified way of reacting to situations that are not acceptable or desirable to you. However social norms prevent you from reacting. Here are a few tricks to help you cover up your anger pangs.

Smile, it’s the best way to camouflage your feelings. However, don’t come across as foaming at the mouth with a smile on your face. Smiling helps to relax your facial muscles and your jaws while helping to keep your lips calm.

Look ahead and try to think and picture if the situation is worth loosing your temper for. Will it alter your life in the next few minutes, months or years? Do not give someone or something more importance than it deserves. Move on from the negative and take it with a pinch of salt.

Choose to adopt a philosophy that is positive to your well being. Rise above your current state to a positive state of being.

Weigh the pros and the cons of you losing your temper. You may relieve yourself at the moment by venting but may not be happy about your words or actions in the future. You stand to hurt more people by venting that by calmly discussing your situation with all persons concerned.

The moment you hit the peak of your temper and are about to blow like a boiling pot, stop and count to hundred. Try hard to concentrate on the numbers. Do not pace while you are doing this as it may just tend to upset you further. Associate a positive memory with each number (1 is how old your daughter is , 2 is the number of cars that you have parked in your garage…)
