
All of us go through depression at some stage in life. It could be due to the loss of someone very close and dear to us, getting fired from a job or it could be facing constant failure at anything you try. Though, depression is a natural condition, the problem arises when a person continues to be depressed for extended periods of time. Depression can be very serious if not dealt with early, as the person suffering from it can get suicidal.
When you are feeling sad and your spirits are down, it’s always best to let it out. Crying is actually a natural cleansing process; it helps you release all the negative emotions and helps you feel lighter. It should be a cause of worry only when the crying gets excessive and seems like it’s the only thing you do everyday.
Take a short break from work and use the time to unwind and help you gain perspective.
Resume work within a few days though, work will help to keep your mind occupied. The distraction at times is actually helpful.
When depressed, it’s natural for a person to be low on energy and not have the desire to do anything at all. However, make efforts to keep yourself physically active. Try taking long walks or swimming. This helps in releasing feel good hormones in your body.
In fact, taking up any form of exercise when depressed, always helps! Try listening to peppy music when walking or jogging, music can immediately elevate your mood. Whatever you do, don’t listen to sad songs.
Look for herbal teas which have anti–depressant qualities. There are a variety of flavors to choose from. Do not buy teas which act as relaxants, you need something to wake you up from within.
Aroma therapy oils or candles are also amazing to lift your mood. Try lighting a candle and read a funny book or watch a funny movie.
Hang out with your close friends more often. Since these are people who are close to you and care about you, they will make an effort to cheer you up.
Stay away from alcohol; this will only make the condition worse.
