How to Deal with Morning Sickness

Morning sickness as the name suggests, is feeling nauseous when you wake up and usually happens during the first few weeks of pregnancy. Nausea can be annoying at anytime during the day, but when you feel sick as soon as you wake up, it can be more difficult to cope with. It gets worse, if you have to rush to work and make it in time for the early morning meeting.

The first thing to do when you wake up is munch on something light and salty. Keep a few crackers by your bedside and munch on 1 or 2 crackers the minute you rise. Do not rush out of bed immediately, rest for about 15 minutes and then start with your day. Chalk out a bathroom time table with your partner. This way you have the bathroom free for yourself when you need to run inside. If there is a bathroom in another room, request your partner to use that one, so it is convenient for you.

A little bit of preparation the night before can make things easier for you in the morning.

Decide what you want to wear to work the night before and keep the clothes and shoes ready.

Fix your breakfast the previous night and store in the refrigerator. If you usually have milk in the morning, pour it out in a glass or if you have to eat nuts in the morning keep them out in a bowl. This way, you buy more time for yourself in the morning.

Do not eat or drink anything in a rush. Space it out, let a few minutes pass in between what you eat.

Similarly, if you already have kids, keep their clothes and breakfast ready as well. Ask your partner to help you in the morning. You could also take help from another family member who can come live with you for a few weeks, request your neighbor or a friend to drive the kids to school or maybe even drive you to work in the morning.

Keep small jars filled with foods/candy that help ease the nausea all around the house. Similarly, stock bags in places which are far away from a bathroom, just in case!

If you can, make arrangements with your boss to let you come in an hour late and make up for that by leaving an hour late in the evening.

Always have a few sour candies in your bag for emergencies. Also drink plenty of lime juice. This helps to keep your energized and hydrated after you throw up. You must also drink plenty of water as it helps to maintain your hydration levels.
