Most of us have stressful situations all through our day. We could deal with these situations with a negative response or deal with it in a positive way. Most of us do something that strikes us instantly without bothering whether it is positive or negative. Here are some stressful situations and what you can do to deal with them instantly and positively.
In a stressful situation like a traffic jam while going to work ones instant reaction would be to curse the other drivers and the road authorities for not devising enough methods to divert or lessen traffic jam. You may think there should be more over bridges or subways so that traffic and pedestrians moved more smoothly. Instead you can deal with this stressful situation positively by instantly starting to do breathing exercises. This would help one to feel more calm and cheerful in dealing with the situation.
Let us next imagine another stressful situation where you have to deal with an unpleasant call from a customer or the stress of being shelled by ones boss. The negative approach would be to go have a drink in the evening or cigarette with a colleague and told him all about it. The positive approach would be to go and run on the treadmill during lunch or go for a walk during lunchtime. Writing out ones strong negative feelings on a piece of paper and later tearing it up helps to release ones negative feelings and also deal with the stressful situation.
In another typical stressful situation where you have finished work early and have to wait for about half an hour to have a meeting with your boss, it would be positive to take time out and go for a walk in a nearby park to get fresh air. It is a negative approach to curse your boss for keeping you late at work and drinking a few beers or complaining about him to a colleague who is busy just to kill time. This will help you to get over this stressful situation also.
