How to Drain an Ear Infection

June 30, 2009

An ear infection is common and in most case sit can be treated at home. The most common cause of an ear infection is bacteria that cause common cold. Another cause of the infection is water that is not drained out of your ears after a bath. In both these cases it is easy to cure the infection with a few natural treatments and home remedies.

If your ear infection is causing pain or swelling in your ear and the surrounding areas then you must use a hot water compress on your ears. Place your head to the side and then use the hot water compress. This will help to reduce the pain and the swelling. The hot water compress will also allow any liquid formation in your ear to evaporate or dissolve.

If you frequently suffer from ear infections then you must keep swimmer’s eardrops with you. Use this medication to help to get rid of the infection and to fasten the healing process.

Keep all objects away from your ears; especially ear buds, clips and metal objects. Wash your hands frequently as your hands are probably the objects that are carrying the infection.

If you experience pain in your ears for more than 6 weeks then you must seek medical advice. Although most ear infections take time to heal; if the pain that you are undergoing is unbearable you may ask your doctor to prescribe antibiotics.

Home remedies for an ear infection

You may try and drain out the puss or water from your ears by mixing equal parts of alcohol and hydrogen peroxide and pouring the liquid into your ears. You may use a dropper to pour the liquid into your ears. Your ear needs to be filled with the liquid and then wait for a few minutes. Then pour the liquid out of your ear into a disposable napkin.

Another home remedy requires you to boil coconut oil with mint leaves and curry leaves. Drain the mixture to get rid of the leaves. Let the oil cool to a temperature that is bearable to your skin. Then pour a few drops into the affected ear. The oil will help to clear the infection and help to eliminate any watery discharge. Use a paper towel to soak the discharge after a few minutes.
