It is important to have a healthy heart to help you avoid heart related diseases. However it is not only important to eat the right food to ensure that your heart stays healthy it is essential to make sure that you have a “heart healthy diet”. There are a few changes that you might have to make in your regular diet to ensure that you are taking care of the needs of the heart.

The heart like every other body organ is a muscle and needs its fair share of exercise to remain healthy. Exercise daily in order to have a healthy heart. Walking, running, and skipping are great exercises to help you get your heart pumping.

Apart from exercise you should include foods like fish in your regular diet. Fish helps reduce bad cholesterol and contains omega three fatty acids thus reducing the risk of heart diseases. Beans such as red beans, black beans, white beans and kidney beans should also be a part of your diet as they have a lot of soluble fiber which helps reduce cholesterol levels. They are also packed with antioxidants and proteins which is essential for the body.

Oats is a great source of fiber and almost immediately helps reduce the risk of heart diseases. It helps keep the cholesterol in check as well. Only consume low-fat or non-fat dairy products. Cheese, milk, yogurt and related dairy products should all be low-fat.

Vegetables and fruit should also be included in your diet and avoid fatty meats. If you are a meat eater stick with lean meats like fish, chicken and pork. Make sure that chicken is cooked without the skin and excess fat and skin from pork should be removed as well. Cooking oil should be used in very little quantities and it is advisable to switch to olive oil which has unsaturated fats which is healthier.
