A healthy diet has great effects on your physical and mental health. Good nutrition is known to be effective in helping with sleep disorders and in easing depression and taking care of stress. Before you start with any new diet; check with your doctor if the diet that you plan on adopting will be beneficial for you.

There are several foods that help to improve your mental health and improve your mood. When you are looking at fighting depression and taking care of stress, you must keep your body well hydrated. Drink plenty of water in order to keep your skin healthy, your bowels clean and improve your motor function. Most of these are the causes of stress to begin with. Water is a cost effective resource and the benefits that you gain from it are endless.

If you are stressed out as a result of post partum depression then you must increase your calcium intake. This helps you to fight stress and reduces your anxiety and stress levels. Those suffering from lack of calcium or low levels of calcium often complain of sleeplessness and are anxious. Dairy products like milk, cheese, yogurt and non dairy products like tofu, cottage cheese and orange juice are great sources of calcium.

Vitamins B, C and E are extremely effective in helping to fight depression. They help to take care of the illnesses and conditions that may cause the stress and depression thereby eliminating it completely.

Folic acid that is present in most leafy vegetables, beans, peanuts and orange juices is effective in taking care of reducing your levels of depression. A research stated that those with high amounts of folic acid are able to fight and overcome depression quicker than others.

In addition to these; food one must avoid over consumption of caffeine. A cup of tea or coffee per day is acceptable; however anything more that that causes mood swings and depression. Reduce the amount of caffeine that you ingest on a daily basis and watch your moods change for the better.
