You haven’t gone out with your friends in the longest time and were looking forward to a few drinks with them, and they turned out to be one to many. The holidays are another time when you tend to guzzle more than you thought you would. As we grow older our metabolism begins to slow down, so even though you aren’t drinking as much as you did earlier you tend to feel tipsy sooner. The idea would be to reduce your alcohol intake as you age.
In order to stay away from a hangover you must eat well before you begin drinking. Having a bowl of pasta or a huge serving of any food loaded with starch helps to decrease your alcohol intake. The food occupies the major part of your stomach keeping little to no room for alcohol.
Spicy foods are known to direct your enthusiasm for alcohol in the opposite direction. If you are already suffering from a hangover eat plenty of spicy foods as it will take the attention away from the nausea you may be feeling. Drink plenty of water to flush out the alcohol from your system. The water cleans your stomach and gets rid of any traces of the alcohol.
Add vitamin C to your diet when you’ve got a hangover. Try orange juice or spike your water with orange squash that has added Vitamin C. The Vitamin C helps to increase your metabolism, thus breaking down the alcohol faster in the digestive track. Eat a few slices of bread. The bread soaks the traces of alcohol and helps to get you on your feet faster. A few slices of toast helps to reduce feelings of nausea. Drink a sports drink that is loaded with electrodes as it will keep you well hydrated.
And the next time you grab that bottle of champagne analyze if the morning after sickness is worth the extra effort after all.
