Sip on Fluids

Sometimes dryness and dehydration can also lead to an itchy throat. In such cases, it is better to keep sipping on fluids all day long. Sip on some cool water especially during the hot summer months in order to give yourself relief from an itchy throat.

Chamomile Tea

Chamomile tea immediately calms an itchy throat. You can add some ginger to eat as ginger has alleviating properties that help to calm an itchy throat. Alternately, you can sip on ordinary tea and add a dash of ginger to it.

Take anti-histamines

Take anti-histamines or an anti-allergens like cetrizene, which will prevent the itchy throat from flaring up into a full-blown throat infection or cold.

Do saline Gargles

Saline gargles are one of the best remedies for an itchy throat. They have maximum efficacy as soon as you feel the first signs of an itchy throat. Do them 3-4 times a day for maximum relief.

Herbal tea

Make a herbal tea at home, which is essentially a concoction of different herbs like basil, ginger, cloves, cinnamon, honey and cardamom. Keep sipping on this tea throughout the day for relief from an itchy throat.

Take your Vitamin C and multi-vitamin supplements

Take a supplement of vitamin C just as you enter the flu season. Vitamin C and other multi vitamins help to boost your immunity and keep you protected from the cold viruses.

Throat lozenges like Vicks and halls are very effective against an itchy throat. You can suck on them along with taking the above steps.

See a Doctor

If your itchy throat does not subside and gets severe, see a doctor as this may be a sign of an infection. In such cases, antibiotics may be prescribed. These will have to be taken over a course of a few days to see a difference.

In Case of Fever

Some cases of itchy throats are accompanied by fever. If you have high fever, use cold compresses to get the fever down and take some anti-fever medication. Make sure you also get plenty of rest and do not exert yourself too much.

Sleep with a Humidifier in your Room

If dryness is causing your throat to be itchy, sleep with a humidifier in your room that will make you breathe moist air. Breathing dry and hot air can sometimes irritate your throat.

Besides these, some simple home remedies like chewing on cinnamon and covering your throat with a scarf are said to be effective. Do some steam inhalation if you are feeling the beginnings of a cold.
