Head lice are insects which reside on human hair and feeds on human blood from scalp. They are contagious and can result in infection after itching and head scratching. Head lice can be seen commonly on kids especially girls. Lice lay eggs which are tiny yellow or brown dots or may look like dandruff and they are called nits.
Nits are found on the hair shafts which are closer to skin where the warm temperature helps them to hatch within 1or 2 weeks.
In order to get rid of it, use head lice killing shampoo and follow the instructions mentioned on it. Be careful with kids while using the shampoo and ensure that it does not come in contact with the eyes. Use a clean towel to dry your hair. Use gloves while using the lice killing shampoo.
You can also apply vegetable oil on your hair and cover it with a plastic bag for 45 minutes; that will kill the lice by suffocating them. Comb your hair with a nit comb that will help you get rid of head lice eggs or wet your hair with the astringent and then comb out which will give you the desired results.
Wash all pillows, bed sheets, brushes, combs and other accessories which can be infested or was used by the person who was infested and use hot water to wash it. Vacuum the bed, carpet, car and ensure everything is cleaned before used again. Make sure people around you are not affected by lice.
Repeat the above steps after a week which will help you to get rid of lice which was missed on the first attempt and follow it till your head is free of lice.
Lice spread by direct contact with the other person carrying it. Lice are insects without any wings. Be careful and share the same tips with the other persons so that they can be lice free as you are.
