How to Have a Safe Pregnancy When You are in Your Late Thirties

The joy of having a baby is unexplainable. Though at every age your pregnancy has certain risks; you must take more care when you are dealing with being pregnant in your late thirties. Though there is a steep rise in the number of women getting pregnant well into their forties; there is some extra care that needs to be taken to ensure that the pregnancy goes to term and that the mother and child are safe.

There are a few precautionary measures you need to take in order to ensure the health and safety of yourself and your child. To start with you need to eat a well balanced meal. This will ensure that you do not have any complications during the term of your pregnancy. The food you eat needs to provide you and your child with the nutrients that you require. You must also take all your medications of time. All doctors recommend taking folic acid tablets and capsules from the first month of conception. This will help you to prevent any neural tube defects and birth defects in the child.

Start a light exercise routine. This will help you to have some physical strain and keep your body fit. Avoid activities that will put pressure on your body and stomach like lifting weight or climbing too many stairs.

Make sure that you maintain a steady weight gain, and prevent any irregularities like increase in blood pressure or sugar levels. For your safety and the safety of your child give up on habits like smoking, consumption of alcohol and drugs. Even second hand smoke is harmful and you must stay away from smoke in all forms.

Follow your doctor’s orders religiously and make sure that you do not skip meals or medications. Keep stressors at bay and lead a life filled with joy for the entire term of your pregnancy. Once your baby is born you will have many reason to smile, laugh, cry and stress out. So keep a positive attitude and care for yourself and your baby from the moment you conceive.
