How to Improve your Mood with the Help of Aromatherapy

June 10, 2009

A person suffering from depression must not be rushed into a speedy recovery. The person needs time to heal and mourn the losses that he is suffering from. While some may choose to cope with depression by using medication; others do not believe in the same. Whatever the cause for the stress the safest way to work around it is to use natural therapies to help to combat it.

Aromatherapy has been used for centuries in the treatment of various aliments; most of them include emotional distress. One must remember; however, not to use the essential oils without detailed information about it. It is best handled by aroma therapists who are certified and trained to administer the treatment.

Lavender oil is known to be a stress buster. In the case of the oil, it helps to lower your cholesterol levels; reduce muscle tension and thereby induce sleep naturally. By helping to take care of the symptoms of stress and anxiety, the oil proves to be useful in reducing the levels of depression. You can use the oil added with almond or coconut oil and massage it into your skin for a quick relief or add it to your bath water and get instant relief after soaking in the warm aromatic water for a few minutes. The longer you soak in the water, the quicker you alleviate the depression.

A blend of equal portions of bergamot, geranium and Melissa is extremely effective in lifting ones depression instantly. The oil must be massaged into your body. You can also soak your feet in a tub of warm water with the oil blend for a strong foot soak and instant relief and lively mood.

Burn sandalwood incense sticks or perfumed candles of lemon or orange flavor in your room and your work space.
