How to Increase Protein in your Diet if you are a Vegetarian

Protein is an important part of your diet and is normally found in fish. If you are a vegetarian then there are several options for you as well. You just need to eat the right food in the right proportion and you will be well on your way to getting the required amount of protein in your diet.

Your diet should include a variety of food like pulses, legumes, leafy vegetables and fruits. You need 5 servings of fruits and 6 to 7 servings of vegetables daily. You may eat vegetables raw in your salads and sandwiches and fruits in their natural form or in juices, milkshakes and smoothies. Spice them up with honey, sugar or seasoning like salt and pepper.

Add soy products and cottage cheese to your diet. They make excellent stir fry dishes and are healthy as well as tasty, best of all they provide you with your daily requirements.

Have soups daily at lunch and dinner time. They are a rich source of protein and fiber and they are extremely nutritious. Beware of pre packed soups as they have added flavors and preservatives.

If you feel that you are not eating enough protein and that your body demand more of it; then you may add protein powder to your milkshakes and breakfast cereal. This will help to start your day with a protein boost.

Beans are a rich source of protein. Eat them boiled, stir fry or just blanched. Season with salt, pepper and turmeric to add flavor.

Avoid eating fast food and snack on dry fruits and nuts. They are a rich source of protein and help you stay away from fast foods by filling you up. They also are extremely healthy and improve your overall health. Eat vegetarian versions of hot dogs and burgers. Soy burgers and tofu burgers are a healthy option. Include milk and cheeses in your diet.
