How to care for your braces
When you are wearing braces then you must brush your teeth with a soft bristled brush after every meal. This helps to remove the food particles that get logged in between your braces and teeth. You will need to brush your teeth for 7 to 10 minutes as getting rid of the bacteria from the braces takes long.
You also need to floss daily. Do not apply too much force when flossing but you must floss regularly. You may do so manually or with the help of a battery operated brush. You must also make sure that you rinse your mouth in the night before you go to bed and after snacks and after drinking tea. If you wear braces then you must visit your dentist every three months for a check up. Avoid eating tough meats and refined sugar based foods when you are wearing braces as they can cause damage to the braces as well as to the surface of the tooth.
How to care for your retainers
You will need to remove your retainers for a few hours every day. Before you place them in your mouth once again you must wash them well. Brush them with your toothbrush. You need not use any toothpaste but rinse them well under cold water. Keep a special container for the retainer in order to prevent them lying around and collecting dirt; this will lead to germs getting into your mouth. Most retainers come with their own case; if you don’t have one it would be a wise investment. Soak it in the liquid provided with the retainer once a month to prevent any foul taste and odor from it. Don’t sleeps with the retainer in your mouth as it will lead to germs getting into it; this will be difficult to eliminate.
