Laughter therapy is gaining pace in the book of healing practices. It is known to cure various ailments. The proverb ‘Laugh and grow fat ‘is quickly roving itself true in the literal sense.

Laughter therapy is known to cure several ailments and the concept of laughter clubs are quickly catching on. Laughing simply takes your mind off everyday stressors. It helps you to maintain balance in your life and not deal with stressful situations all the time. Being able to laugh is the best way to ward off any signs of stress. Being able to laugh at yourself can heal you of any emotions that you are going through.

How does laughing help your health?

Laughing not only helps your physical health but also your mental health. When you are stressed out, the adrenal glands release cortisol into your blood stream. This is a natural killer. When you laugh; your laughter releases certain cells that suppress the cortisol.

Effects of laughter

-Laughter helps to reduce your blood pressure and thereby solves any traces of hypertension.

-For those who are unable to exercise due to physical shortcomings; laughter helps with a cardio workout.

-Laughing helps to clean the stale air from your lungs as it empties out more air than you breathe in. It helps patients suffering from respiratory disorders like asthma.

-It helps to release disease fighting hormones; thereby improving general health.

How to identify if you need laughter therapy?

In several instances, a person is unaware that he is undergoing stress in his life and his body reacts to the stress internally as well as externally. While the external effects are visible; the internal effects may surface only later in life and in some cases that may be too late. If you are going through a particularly stressful period in your life either at home or at work, try joining a laughter club to improve your mental as well as physical health.
