When you intend to lose weight you must understand that it is not possible to loose all the extra pounds instantly. Set realistic goals for yourself and with the help of exercise and a good diet plan you will be able to shed the extra pounds that you intend to. Dieting to lose weight does not mean avoidance of food at all levels. Dieting is eating the right foods at the right time in the right portions. Binging on certain foods altogether or avoiding certain foods is not the key to a healthy diet. When you are on a diet your body must receive the right quantity of food to meet the energy requirements for the day.

Before going on a diet you must note down your food and exercise patterns and understand the causes of the weight gain. Once that is done it is easy to eliminate the weight. Skip sugars and carbohydrates as far as possible. Staying away from candy and cookies will help to take care of this.

Your options of foods need not change but just a change in the preparation style will help. If you are a potato lover like most people then you do not need to avoid them completely. Instead of chomping on fries; bake them or eat them as a mash salad. If fish is your catch of the day then grill it instead of frying it. This will reduce your intake of oils that have fats in them. Eat boiled brown rice instead of steam rice. You will get the same taste and energy for lesser calories. Foods that have a high fiber content are good for losing weight as they expand in your stomach and cause a full sensation, thereby making you eat smaller portions naturally.
