How to Make Meal Times Pleasent for Children

When talking about infants who are just beginning to start eating, the aim should not be to make the child eat by force keeping a keen eye on the clock but to let her natural appetite surface so that she wants to eat and asks for it either by signs or by crying. Do not get disappointed if she is not eating large quantities. Stop thinking and analyzing about how much your child is eating. If she is not getting the required amounts of nutrients that her body requires, she will start asking for food more often.

Never shout at children for not eating or threaten them. Do not force feed your child as it may lead to your child throwing up the food or even worse she may choke on it. You children need to eat not because they are being dictated to but because they are hungry and their bodies are demanding food.

To make meal times more fun; begin by giving your child foods that she likes. This doesn’t mean that you offer her a big bowl of ice cream first while she forgets about the rest of her meal. Make her mouth water so that she can’t resist the food and cant begin to start eating. Omit the foods that she dislikes for a few weeks but try to maintain as healthy a diet as you can.

Play soothing music in the background while feeding your child and take away all toys and playthings in order to avoid distracting her attention away from her food. Once the child is a year old, give her a spare spoon and bowl that she can hold. This empowers her to learn how to feed herself. This is a good time to build your child’s vocabulary so speaking to her and telling her what she is eating or telling her a story will be a good practice.

It’s a time for parent and child to bond so make the most of it.
