How to Massage Swollen Breasts During and After your Pregnancy

May 12, 2009

Being pregnant is a beautiful thing; yet you experience pains in areas that you didn’t know existed or could torture you will pain. If it’s your first time around then you are definitely anxious about the changes that your body goes through. Major changes take place in your breast.

You will see a noticeable change in your bra size, this is because your body id getting ready to breast feed your baby after she is born. At this time it is important for you to massage your beast to ensure that there are no lumps forming and in order for you avoid engorged breasts after child birth.

Before you begin massaging your breasts apply a warm compress to it. Then massage it with your fingers. Do not apply too much pressure as there is no bone but only muscle tissue in it. Move your fingers in circular motions. If you experience any trouble in moving your fingers then you can use some lotion, cream or oil to make sure that your fingers can move smoothly across your breasts. Start from the outside and move inwards towards the nipples. Massage each breast for 7 to 10 minutes daily once you enter your third trimester.

If you feel uncomfortable then apply an ice pack on your breasts. However if you feel that your breasts are getting harder and heavier then avoid a cold compress and opt for a hot compress. If this happens before you deliver the baby then report it to your doctor immediately as this could be a sign of engorged breasts.

Always wear a comfortable bra that helps to support your chest cavity. A good bra helps to hold the breasts and takes it weight and transfers it to the right area on your back. Start wearing a maternity bra from your second trimester onwards. They provide the best support as they are designed with a specific purpose. Use a night bra when you are sleeping.
