Obesity is the most serious problem in children as it is likely to cause physical and mental problems in the child as he grows up. If your child becomes unusually plump in the first year you must not consider this cute but must watch the diet of the child closely. Many cultures take pride in over feeding their children to a point that they are so fat that they are unable to walk with ease. Avoid this at al costs in the early stages of development as it causes problems in later stages in the child’s development.

The key to treating obesity is watching the amount of sugar that the child consumes daily. A child will well be satisfied with vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and beans. If you are making these dietary changes however; you must consult with your child’s doctor before making these drastic changes. Work with a dietician and your doctor to reduce the amount of carbohydrates, fats and calories that your child consumes and swap it with healthy foods like protein and fiber rich food.

Keep the child well hydrated with plenty of water, fresh juices and fruits. Ensure that the child eats plenty of fish and avoid pastas and pizzas. If your child makes a fuss to eat vegetables then try to spice up the preparations. Avoid fried foods and opt for baked, sautéed and grilled versions of the child’s favorite foods. Most children love potatoes in the fried form. This can lead to a child packing on unwanted pounds. You can substitute this with a grilled or baked version of potatoes.

Remember, that not every child that is over weight is unhappy. It is a normal thing for children even the most healthy ones to put on a few extra pounds every now and then. This is common to vacation times and children who are not into physical activities like sports. Girls who are plump generally loose weight around puberty.
