What is Rosacea?
It is a skin condition where a multitude of capillaries near the surface of the skin dilate. This normally happens on the face and the most affected parts are the nose, forehead, cheeks and chin. The skin looks deep red and causes a burning sensation.
How to prevent and treat the condition?
When you are suffering from this kind of a disorder, you must take care not to irritate the skin in any way. Avoid using creams and lotions that have granules in them as they act to exfoliate the skin. When you suffer from a skin condition as severe as Rosacea you must avoid exfoliating your skin till your skin clears up.
Use gentle cleansers on your skin and avoid washing your face too often. The water will wash away the natural oils from your skin and cause it to dry up and this will harm your skin further.
Use a deep conditioning cream during the day and if you are going outdoors then using a high SPF sunscreen lotion is extremely important. Use the kinds that are made for babies as they are gentle on your skin yet give you the desired protection.
Avoid eating foods that are too spicy as they aggravate your skin condition. Avoid eating foods that are just out of the oven or stove as well. Let your food cool down to room temperature before you eat it. Heat tends to cause more irritation on your skin.
Avoid heat in all ways possible. Hot water baths, facial steams, saunas and hot tubs are an absolute no. bathe in warm water if you must, though a cold shower is your best bet. The cold water helps to relieve the burning sensation. Rubbing ice on your face after a bath or washing your face with ice cold water also helps.
Aloe Vera gel is soothing. You must use it generously on your face to help to cool the skin and reduce the inflammation.
