How to Prevent Chapped Hands
The skin care industry is a million dollar industry. It focuses on beautifying and enhancing a person’s natural beauty while also paying close attention to correcting a person’s flaws. Though most of the body is prone to chapping only during the colder months of the year the hands are subjected to using water and other harsh elements and hence they are prone to chapping throughout the year. Fortunately there are several ways to prevent this condition. By paying attention to your hands and treating them with tender affection you will be able to avoid chapping on this part of your body.
In order to reduce chapping on your hands you need to reduce your contact with water. Placing your hands in water too often and using harsh cleaning agents strip your skin of the natural moisture. That doesn’t mean that you do not have to use any products or avoid cleaning your house; you need to use protective gloves when you are involved in your chores.
Avoid using hand sanitizers too often unless they contain some moisturizers in them. As most of them are made with alcohol they tend to dry the skin on the hands. Use a moisturizer every time you wash your hands in warm or cold water. Use moisturizing soaps instead of liquid hand washes.
Hydrate your skin from within in order to prevent chapping. This can be done by drinking plenty of water and fresh fruit juices during the day. Water nourishes your skin internally and it retains fluids in the body thereby preventing the skin from getting dehydrated. Avoid drinking anything that contains caffeine as it leads to dehydration.
Protect your hands when you are outdoors. This means that you need to wear gloves during winter. Also ensure that you wear gloves when you are gardening or moving the lawn.
Massage olive oil on your hands daily at night. You can do so before you step into the shower too. The natural hydrating properties of the oil will nourish your dry skin and prevent chapping. Do this daily in order to prevent dry skin. Massage the oil on your hands for a few minutes before you step into bed. Alternatively you could also use Aloe Vera gel to add moisture to your skin.
