How to Prevent Dry Cracked Heels Naturally

June 30, 2009

Dry cracked heels are a common foot problem. They are caused when you do not pay attention to your feet or when your feet are exposed to water for prolonged periods. The dry skin on your feet form calluses and eventually leads to bleeding feet if not cared for.

You must spend a few minutes daily in the shower to exfoliate the skin on your feet. Doing this helps to remove the dead skin and the calluses in order to soften the skin on your feet. Use a pumice stone when your feet are wet but avoid using the stone on soapy feet as it does not serve the purpose. Soak your feet in a tub of warm water once in a while and use peppermint oils to let your feet relax and to increase the amount of circulation in them. This allows your feet to look and feel healthy.

If merely exfoliating your feet does not leave them soft and devoid of calluses then you must use moisturizers. Use a light fruit based moisturizer after your morning shower and a heavier lotion at night before going to bed. This helps to soften the skin on your feet and prevent the build up calluses. If the skin on your feet is very dry then you must use socks at night to lock in the moisture.

Apply a face pack to your feet for extra pampering. Normally fruit based packs are helpful; if you do not have one then mash papaya and pineapple together and apply it to your feet. Let the skin on your feet soak in the juices and relieve the itching and pain caused by the dry skin.

In order to prevent your feet from calluses and bleeding heels you must make sure that the skin is able to breathe well. This can happen if you wear proper footwear and hosiery. Avoid using synthetic and nylon hose as they do not let your skin breathe. Cotton is the best fabric for your skin. It lets it breathe well and absorbs any perspiration in the bargain.
