October 10, 2008

Osteoarthritis is a problem of joint pain in which cartilage tissues around the joints in our body become weak and joints in our body start rubbing against each other. A continuous rubbing of joint in any part of our body lead to the problem like swelling around the joint, stiffness and pain. The problem of osteoarthritis is common among the people of age group 40 and more and it become more painful with aging. A person suffering from osteoarthritis may feel pain in joints while getting up from the bed in the morning, while climbing the stairs, bending during any type of physical activity or simply while walking. If not cured in its early state osteoarthritis becomes very painful and patient finds it very tough to perform simplest daily routine activities. The main body part affect during osteoarthritis are knee joints, neck, hips, spine and joints of hand. So, it is very important that the osteoarthritis should be cured at its early stage. Though there is no permanent treatment for this disease but it can be controlled and the pain can be reduced by consulting doctor in time.

The common causes for the osteoarthritis include a prolonged hard physical activity, deficiency of nutrients in our body, overgrowth of bones and minor stress fractures. Moreover, old age is another factor leading to osteoarthritis. People indulging in hard physical activities in their young age are expected to have the problem of osteoarthritis during old age. However, taking proper precaution may prevent this problem. One should take care of his diet, exercising habit and intake of calcium in daily food. The best way to protect oneself from the problem of osteoarthritis is to keep healthy and fit at all ages. This can be done by taking a balance diet, intake of fresh fruits and vegetable to supply necessary vitamins to the body and a regular exercise. We should ensure that the food we eat includes the required amount of vitamins, calcium, phosphorus and other nutrients.

In old age the ability of our body to maintain balance of various nutrients decreases and as a result the muscles and cartilage tissues around our bone joints become wear and tear and consequently this leads to the problem of osteoarthritis. It is observed that the people with good eating habits are less affected by this disease. Always ensure that the food you eat is rich in vitamins, minerals and other necessary nutrients. In case you find a continuous pain in any joint of your body, you should consult a doctor to confirm the reason for the same. An early stage treatment of osteoarthritis is the best way to prevent it going to the worse condition.
