I wasn’t blessed with good teeth. For my fourth Christmas the only thing that Santa Clause gave me was 4 teeth being extracted on Christmas Eve. I can still feel the pain. I promised myself on that day that I would do everything in my power to protect my teeth from decaying anymore and I am proud to say that I was successful.

Caring for your teeth is not such a tough job if you are motivated. While most of the reason related to tooth decay are poor hygiene the rest of them are due to poor nutrition. Fortunately, you can take care of both.

The most important thing you need to do is brush your teeth regularly. For most people that is the task that holds least importance. They hit the snooze button and grab an extra 45 minutes sleep and then rush through all morning activities. You must spend anywhere for 5 to 7 minutes brushing your teeth. Pay attention to the ones at the back as well; that’s where most of the trouble begins. Brush your teeth twice daily.

Your toothpaste must contain fluoride to prevent tooth decay.

Flossing your teeth is as important as brushing. Flossing helps to take away all the food particles that may be hidden between your teeth.

Yu must also brush your tongue every time you brush your teeth. Your tongue has deposits of all the food you eat and the bacteria thrive on it. You can use a tongue cleaner or your toothbrush. Doing this also helps to freshen your breath.

Increasing your calcium intake via supplements or food helps the texture of your teeth.

Snack on fresh fruits and vegetables like cucumber and celery. Fruits are a good option as well. Avoid sugar and sugary foods as the tend to stay on your teeth.
