How to Prevent Yeast Infections

A yeast infection can be caused by different factors like clothing, toilet paper, unsanitary conditions and medication. It is a bacterial condition that causes discomfort in the vaginal area and causes foul odor in severe conditions. There are a few things that you can do to prevent an infection.

-Firstly always wear cotton underwear. Avoid synthetic fabrics on a daily basis as they are not healthy for your skin.

-Dry the vaginal area completely after a bath or shower. The moisture in the area causes the growth of the bacteria. Trim pubic hair regularly to avoid moisture being retained after urination. Wash the area thoroughly after every time you visit the toilet. Always keep the area dry in order to prevent an infection.

-Avoid wearing tight clothing like jeans and leggings. The fitted clothing cause the spread of the infection as it encourages the growth of the yeast.

-After a swim in the ocean or pool; change your wet bathing suit immediately. The water causes moisture to be retained in the vaginal area causing the bacteria to work overtime.

-Avoid using scented toilet paper that may have deodorants or fragrances added to them as these may cause mild irritation. Use unscented white toilet paper. Avoid using printed ones also.

-During your periods avoid scented tampons and pads as they may cause mild to severe irritation. Change your pads every 4 to 6 hours depending on the flow. Wash the area well and wipe dry with a clean towel.

-High amounts of sugar cause the bacteria to increase. Decrease your consumption of sugary sweets and cookies and candies. Sugars help the yeast to spread quicker and hence they must be avoided, especially during your periods.

-Always wear panty liners and change them frequently to avoid moisture and infections.

-Several feminine washes and sprays are available in drug stores. Use one that suits your needs best.
