How To Prevent Your Child From Having An Eating Disorder
Eating disorders rarely spring out of the blue. Like many problems, they have a root cause that may be deep seeded. Preventing them is easier than trying to cure them.
Eating disorders are common to girls as well as boys and there is a no factor that sets one apart from the other.
The key to avoiding an eating disorder is to focus on your child’s diet and eating habit from the beginning. Focus on exercise and physical activity as well. Do not focus on your child being thin as it can lead your child to bulimia or anorexia during adolescence. On the other hand focusing too much on being thin can have the exact opposite reaction and the child may grow obese.
As a parent you need to respect your child’s body type and eating habits as well. To avoid your child having an eating disorder you must focus on the health of your children and make sure that they are receiving the required amount of nutrients that they need daily.
If you feel that they are not getting the required amount of physical activity that they need then you must incorporate them in your exercise regime. Enroll them in fun activities like ballet, figure skating and football.
When it comes to food, watch their habits. You can gauge if your child is leaning over to having an eating disorder by the habits that they portray before and after lunch and dinner. Keep meals light if you feel that your children are not eating heavier preparations.
Always cook food in low oil or avoid oily preparations. You food will taste equally great if you boil, saute, grill or bake the items your kids love rather than frying them.
Examine your own behavior. Often children follow in their parent’s footsteps from a very young age. If you are constantly taking about dieting, reducing weight or being unhappy with your own body; you are setting an example for your children to feel the same way about themselves.
