The sun has the ability to dry your hair and make it look dull and lifeless. If you are a person who is exposed to the sun frequently then there are a few precautions that you need to take to avoid damaging your hair. You will also be glad to know that if your hair has already been damaged by the sun; then there are several remedies to cure it as well.
How to protect your hair in the sun
Prevention is always better than cure. When you are out in the sun; just as you protect your skin with sun screen you must also protect your hair. Wear a cap, hat or scarf when you are out in the sun to protect your hair from heat in form of UV rays that damage it. This helps to protect your scalp from the direct rays of the sun.
When you are heading out to the beach add a few drops of conditioner to your hair and comb it through. You may choose to use normal conditioner or leave in conditioner. Do not rinse it before you hit the water but let it acts as a deep conditioning for your strands. When you hit the water it will wash off automatically while still protecting your scalp and hair.
Keep your mane free of harmful chemicals. The amount of chemicals that you add to your hair will show its results in a few years. Adding harmful chemicals from hairsprays and gels that are not organic punishes your hair and steals it from its natural beauty. When you expose your chemical ridden mane to the sun the UV rays react with the chemicals and it results in severe damage to your hair.
Avoid hair care products that are alcohol based. The alcohol in the products burns your hair and scalp when exposed to the sun. This leads to discoloration of hair and split ends.
How to care for sun burnt hair
If the sun has created havoc on your mane then you must take care and pamper your hair to get it back in shape. Apply a mixture of egg and yogurt to your hair to condition it. Avoid washing your hair frequently and do not use hot water on your head. It would be advisable to use oils like coconut and almond on your hair to keep it well conditioned.
