A sense of feeling low on energy or lack of will to perform daily routine activities is known as lethargy. It is common to the winter months when the cold weather makes you want to curl up in bed under a blanket with a cup of warm milk. On a more serious note, lethargy is associated with change in bowel movements, depression and lack of energy. Sometimes boredom or monotony can lead to feeling lethargic.
How to overcome this feeling?
There is no medical treatment to overcome the feeling; however there are a few remedies that help you to get back your energy levels. Start off with getting out of bed and your sleep clothes. Have a warm bath with lavender oils infused in the water to hike your energy levels instantly.
After your bath, put on your activity clothes and shoes. Go about your daily chores and activities. If your lifestyle does not include too many activities then you can start with a brisk walk or go jogging for about 30 minutes. When you return you may reward yourself with a cup of tea with basil leaves. Add refined sugar as the sweetener. The basil along with the sugar will increase your energy levels instantly and drastically.
Lemon juice is a quick fix for lethargy. If you are particularly tired then you need to sip on some cold lemon juice to instantly pick up your energy levels.
A cold drink with Vitamin C will do the trick to instantly uplift your energy levels. Oranges are normally a rich source of Vitamin C and hence eating the fruit or sipping on the juice will increase your energy levels.
If you normally feel lethargic then you must keep a check on your diet. Eating foods that are rich in complex carbohydrates, especially at lunch time must be avoided. Lack of sleep or disturbed sleep can lead to feeling of lethargy and hence one must ensure 5 to 6 hours of undisturbed sleep daily. Make sure that the room you sleep in is neither too hot nor too cold. Keep your body temperature normal when you sleep to ensure tat you are not disturbed.
Do not consume artificial stimulants close to bed time as they interfere with your sleep patterns and reduce the amount of sleep you get; thus making you lethargic later in the day.
