Fats are a part of every diet, no matter how hard you try. Unless you are on a detoxifying diet; you are sure to eat fat in some form or the other. The worst part is when it comes out of your own kitchen. Fortunately there are a few changes that you can make in your cooking styles that will help to promote better health.

The best option is to switch to grilled and baked version of meats and vegetables. In this way you are eliminating oil completely. Trim the fat of the meat before you lay it on the grill to cook so that you are not melting the existing fat into your food. Cook chicken with the fat but remove the skin before serving it or cut it at the dinner table. For processed meats and mince wash it under running water, drain the extra fat and then run it under warm water.

If you are using oil to cook then you must use non stick cookware. This way you are reducing the amount of oil that you use to cook your food by more than 70 percent.

Substitute your regular milk with skimmed low fat versions of the dairy. You can also use milk powder in your coffee and tea instead of whole milk.

Instead of using oil to season your meats use herbs. They have close to zero calories and add spice and flavor to your meals.

Substitute bacon for Canadian bacon. It is lower in fat and tastier than the other. Avoid processed meats like sausages, frankfurters, and salami and pork products.

Avoid using butter, clarified butter and margarine in cakes and cookies. You can use oil and water in equal portions of the same amount as you would add butter. The recipe will change but you stand to get the same taste of the cake minus the calories.

Cook in olive oil, you will automatically decrease the amount of oil you need to cook by half.
