How to Reduce the Intake of Sugar in Your Child’s Diet
Children are attracted to sugar like a moth to a flame. No matter where you go you will see that children’s treats laced with sugar. From cereals to yogurt they all have added flavors and sugar. The amount of sugar that a child consumes in today’s day in age is way higher compared to what he should be consuming.
The key to reducing the amount of sugar that your child consumes lies in replacing the current foods with healthier options. All children love cakes and cookies. Instead of buying some locally you can bake them at home. It gives you the luxury of using lesser amounts of sugar in the preparation.
Ice cream is another food tat children can’t resist. Though there are several fruit flavors available the choices that you have still have huge amounts of sugars in them. To take care of this you must try and get your children to eat fruit flavored ice creams that are sugar free. It is quit a task to get them to settle down on these flavors though.
Avoid eating canned fruits as they have added sugars in them. An alternative to this is to eating seasonal fruits so that you can get them fresh at your local supermarket.
Get rid of sugar coated breakfast cereals and buy natural sugar free type. This helps to reduce the sugar intake by a huge percent. Also, it avoid giving your child huge amounts of sugar first thing in the morning.
Let your children eat small amounts of sugar as it prevents them from binging at times when they have access to sugars. This happens at parties and children’s gatherings and you are sure to have them get sick after binging on huge amounts of sugar.
You must practice what you preach. If you expect your children to eat lower amounts of sugar then you will be expected to do the same. If your diet has a high amount of sugar then reducing the amount of sugar your child consumes will be an impossible task.
