How to Stay Healthy During the H1N1 Pandemic

The current pandemic is causing havoc around the globe as the number of deaths is rising every day. There are several things that you need to know to protect yourself. Remember that the virus causes influenza and those suffering from respiratory diseases or have medical conditions on the lines of HIV/AIDS, cancer and diabetes are at greater risk of contracting the disease. However, no matter how healthy you are; you are at risk if you come in contact with someone who has already contracted the virus. It cannot spread by consuming pork.

Eating a healthy diet and maintaining balance in your life is the best way to prevent the flu. Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and drink plenty of water. Wash foods well before cooking or eating them. You must be especially careful when you are eating foods in the raw state. You must ensure that you get adequate rest and exercise as well.

Avoid going to public places like malls and theatres. As far as possible avoid public transportation. These are common places that you are likely to come in contact with the germs. Wash your hands if you have touched anything in public. This includes desks, door handles, computers in public places and bathrooms. Wash your hands every hour or so and use a hand sanitizer when ever you are not able to use soap.

If you come in contact with any one who is coughing or sneezing then you must avoid contact with that person. Do not go out in public if you have the slightest symptoms of flu or cold. This puts you at greater risk of contracting the flu. Visit a doctor immediately to get checked for swine flu.

Do not touch any person that you do not know. If you need to meet with a person who has travelled abroad or to a place where there are several cases of the flu; postpone your meeting for a few days after arrival. Hold all meetings with foreign delegates till the pandemic settles down.

Keep yourself informed about the latest developments against the flu and the advancements. Chances are your government is giving you information with regards to what needs to be done and precautions that you need to take.
