How to Stop Bad Eating Habits and Eat Healthy

Bad food, food that is low in nutrition and high in calories are available at every street corner. Resisting them is a big task and indulging in them is not beneficial to your health; however if you are craving a certain food then you must indulge in it in small portions.

You must allow yourself a snack that ranges from 100 to 300 calories daily. Instead of eating cookies and chips opt for a more nutritious snack like nuts and raisins or a sandwich. Avoid snacks that contain refined sugar or those that are high in sodium. Do not starve a craving as it will lead to binging at a later stage.

You must drink water throughout the meal as it helps to fill you up. You must take time to enjoy your food. If you eat fast; your stomach does not have the time to register how full you are and you end up eating more food that your body can digest. Eat finger foods and salads that are easier to digest.

In most cases we eat to get rid of stress. If you are an emotional eater then you must first find out the cause of the stress and try and confront it as far as possible. It may help to reduce the amount of empty calories you eat. You must also avoid eating food when you are doing other activities like watching the television or driving or working on the computer. Snacking while indulging in these acts only adds to your calorie intake.

Buy snack size packets to avoid overeating. If you have larger packs of snacks in the house there are chances that you will over eat at some point. It is in your best interest to buy snack size so that you eat the appropriate amount of food that your body requires.

Planning your meals and snacks in advance helps to make sure that you are not eating unhealthy foods. You can plan your meals for the week over the weekend and do the grocery shopping appropriately. In this way you will prevent being unequipped and hence eating snacks that are low in nutrition.
