While most women love their baby from the day that they realize they are pregnant; it takes time for others to adjust to the fact that they are responsible for a new life that is totally dependant on them. In some unfortunate cases; women bleed during their first or third trimester. If you do so then you do not need to panic. Not all cases of bleeding lead to miscarriages.
Why do women bleed during their pregnancy
When you are in your first trimester then the bleeding could be serious and can lead to a miscarriage if the bleeding begins before 12 weeks. In some cases the implant occurs outside the uterus and hence the bleeding occurs. This is a situation that occurs 1 in 60 times. An infection in the pelvic region or the urinary tract can lead to such a condition. In some cases intercourse can rupture the membranes near your pelvis and cause the bleeding.
If the bleeding begins in the later part of your pregnancy then it could be a sign of pre term labor. This is a situation where the labor begins a few weeks before time ad hence ruptures the mucus plug.
If you experience bleeding then the worst thing you can do is panic. Panicking will increase your blood pressure and increase the flow of blood and you stand to loose more blood. Remember that not every case of bleeding leads to a miscarriage and that 20 percent of pregnant women bleed through the entire term of the pregnancy and more than half of them have normal babies.
You must call your doctor immediately and inform her about your situation. Wear a pad or a panty liner to help you to understand how much blood you are using as you will need to report this to your doctor. Never wear a tampon as insertion of any object will cause the passage to be more sensitive and increase the bleeding. Refrain from sexual intercourse for the entire term of your pregnancy even if you experience bleeding even once.
