How to Treat Mumps Naturally with Herbs

June 29, 2009

Like chicken pox and measles mumps is also a viral infection. It causes inflammation and enlargement of the salivary glands and is also accompanied with a fever, headache and a dry mouth sensation. Nowadays a vaccine known commonly as MMR is available and is administered to children. This vaccine protects them against measles, mumps and rubella. Mumps is relatively rare nowadays however not totally unheard of. The treatment of mumps traditionally was done using antibiotics which were very strong and rest. There are other alternative remedies which can help relieve the symptoms and cure the mumps.

Colloidal silver is a natural antibiotic which has no side effects. It has been known to be very effective in treating the mumps. It has to be placed under the tongue and held there for a minute for fastest absorption by the body. Painful swelling in the cheeks caused by the mumps can also be relieved by holding Colloidal silver in the inflamed cheek. The dosage to be followed differs from manufacturer to manufacturer so please read the instruction on the bottle.

Another natural antibiotic that helps boost the effect of colloidal silver is olive leaf extract. Olive leaf extract is available in liquid form as well as in the form of pills. It is rich in oleuropein which helps attack the outer protective protein coat of the virus and weakening it.

Swelling or inflammation in the cheeks can also be reduced with a homemade paste consisting of one teaspoon of ginger powder and a few drops of water. Rub the paste gently into your cheeks to help reduce the swelling two to three times a day.

Another homeopathic medicine that helps reduce the painful symptoms of mumps is aconitum napellus. Make a dosage of 6C three times a day until the pain fades away.
