We live in stressful times, where we are constantly struggling with family, work and finances. Balancing all elements in our life may not always seem possible and hence you must make sure that you are able to de-stress at the end of the day.

Most people give into habits like smoking and alcohol as stress relievers; however one must be aware of the fact that these elements cause harm to your system and prevent you from being able to unwind. They also cause harm to your physical health. There are several ways in which you can de-stress at the end of the day and this helps you physically and mentally.

Firstly when you are stressed out you must drink plenty of water. This will help your body to normalize the internal temperature, ensure bowel movements and prevent indigestion. Though you may not feel like it, you must eat your meals on time. Eating with the family at the dinner table rather than in front of the television will be therapeutic.

If spending time with your family is not very appealing to you on extremely stressful days then you can spend some time alone. Go for a brisk walk around the neighborhood or burn a few scented candles in your room and sit down and take deep breaths. The aroma will help to calm your nerves and help you unwind. Lavender based oils and aromas work best to relieve stress.

Another way to unwind after a long day is to soak your feet in a tub of warm water and add a few aromatic oils to pamper yourself. The water will help to ease any pain and swelling in your feet and relaxes your senses. A gentle massage at home by a loved one or a professional massage can work wonders for your mental health.

If your life is particularly stressful then you must enroll yourself for yoga classes. The sessions will help you to relax your senses and unwind with meditation and exercise. Yoga is a powerful form of relaxation that has been practiced for centuries. Though this practice is native to India it is gaining popularity in Western cultures due to the vast benefits that it offers.
