How to Work Through Feelings of Social Isolation

We live in a world where although we have a multitude of friends and contacts we are unable to feel a sense of belonging. Most of us live virtual lives; where we connect with friends via various social networking sites, email or over the phone. While we use all these media we loose a sense of belonging because of lack of physical contact.

While we live these virtual lives we begin to compare our lives with those of others and this is where the problems begin. Do not compare your life with others. Remember, most people will only put up the kind of information that they want to brag about. No one leads a perfect life and what you witness on the sites are just a portion of ones lifestyle and behaviors. If you see picture of friends gathering where you haven’t been invited; you must not feel left out; they probably are not meeting for any reason that you have in common with them.

If you feel lonely, it is ok. You are allowed to have these feelings and you must do everything in your power to get out of this. If you feel lonely and depressed it does not mean that you are weird or that you are different; it just means that you need to seek out solutions to enhance your life with more activities. When you feel lonely you must remember that you are not alone.

There are several things that you can do if you have too much of spare time. Take up a hobby class or simply get off the computer and do something physically. It is best to go out and try your hand at some skill that you may be able to develop. If you experience negative feelings then you must try to get some help to get you out of this situation. Yoga is a great way to assist you to get in touch with your inner self and analyze the reasons why you are experiencing those feelings. You can also seek professional help to get out of this sense of loneliness. A sense of belonging to a particular group will help you to be more positive.
