How Women can Prevent a Yeast Infection

A yeast infection occurs due to Candida albicans which is a fungus that is present inside the body. This fungus is however present in every minute quantities and when this fungus starts growing excessively that is when it causes a yeast infection. Yeast infection is a very uncomfortable situation as it causes a lot of itching and a constant burning sensation.

It is a little harder to diagnose this infection in males as compared to women and most men might go about without even knowing that they have it and normally it is the women who tell them about the infection as they have contracted it from them. There are a few household remedies which are useful to deal with this condition. It is also recommended to visit a doctor and get yourself examined as they would be able to prescribe some ointments and medication incase the infection is severe.

Women can use yogurt as a suppository to help tackle the yeast infection. The best way to insert the yogurt into your vagina is to use a plastic tampon applicator. Fill the applicator with yogurt and freeze it. Once that is done insert the yogurt into the vagina like a regular tampon. The coldness will help soothe the burning caused by the yeast.

Another common home remedy is to insert a clove of garlic which has been peeled and tied in muslin cloth with dental floss. The dental floss should be long enough to enable you to pull it out. The clove should be left inside the body overnight as it is most effective when it can stay that way for a couple of hours. This treatment should be repeated as often as possible till the infection has subsided. Another common treatment is the application of tea tree oil to a tampon and inserted into the vagina. Before the tea tree oil is applied onto the tampon apply petroleum jelly onto the tampon to prevent it from absorbing the tea tree oil.

Drink at least 8 – 10 glasses of water and about 4 glasses of cranberry juice daily. This will help you pass urine more frequently and would also flush out the bacteria and toxins from the bladder. The cranberry juice would turn the urine more acidic and the urinary tract acidic as well which would play a bad host for bacteria thus helping the body flush out the bacteria as well.
