Vitamin B Complex is a combination of eight water-soluble vitamins. In fact, this vitamin has no side effects, even if consumed in large doses but the side-effects begin with the vitamin reaching its optimal level. Each vitamin and mineral has its own essential need to keep us strong and healthy. Vitamin B-complex is extremely vital for the body and is absorbed by the body for performing different functions as well as cell metabolism.
As per the Public Health Service, we require a daily amount of 400 mg of vitamin B6 but consuming more than 400 mg each day means 200 times the RDA and can lead to troubles in walking, numbness in the hands and the mouth, calcium deficiency, nerve degeneration, muscle cramps, numbness, depression, fatigue, heart palpitations, mood swings, suicidal tendencies, insomnia, increased dream action, insomnia, headaches, osteoporosis, decreased estrogen and neurological disorders.
Excess of vitamin B6 has the chances of depleting other vitamins of B group and hence this vitamin should be consumed wisely. In fact, too much of anything is dangerous and vitamin B overdose is no exceptional.
Though there are negligible effects of vitamin B complex for vitamin B1 and vitamin B2, but still some side effects have been found to occur. Overdose of vitamin B1 (Thiamine) can cause heart palpitations, hypersensitivity of skin, insomnia, irritation, agitation and hypersensitivity of skin. Similarly, vitamin B2 (riboflavin) overdose can also cause fatigue, nausea, anemia, low blood pressure as well as vomiting.
Excess intake of vitamin B3 (niacin) can cause several side effects. High blood sugar, uric acid formation, hot flashes, ulcers, cardiac arrhythmias, jaundice, diarrhea, raised stomach acid, faintness, impairment of liver function, jaundice, calcium loss, skin rashes and also pounding in the head.
Side effects of vitamin B complex in case of high levels of vitamin B5 are edema, dehydration, joint pains, gastrointestinal diseases, fatigue, and depression along with reduced protein metabolism.
High levels of folic acid (B9) causes poor appetite, gas or bloating, stomach upset, kidney failure, nausea and vomiting, increased cholesterol and even pernicious anemia. Cyanocobalamin or vitamin B12 overdose can lead to tingling and numbness of various body parts as well as anxiety.
