Importance of Milk in your Diet

Milk and milk products contain various nutrients and provide a quick and easy way of supplying these nutrients to your body while keeping the calories in check. Milk provides you with nutrients like calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and protein to name a few.1 glass of milk provides you with all the recommended dietary allowances of nutrients.

The calcium in the milk helps build strong bones and teeth. Bones development and growth is dependant on your calcium intake. Most of the bone development takes place in childhood and teen years. Hence children must drink a glass of milk and have a bowl of yogurt daily. Optimizing bone mass in your earlier years helps reduce the risk of osteoporosis in later stages in life.

People who drink milk are less obese than people who do not as milk is low in fat and hence you consume lesser calories yet maintain a good balanced diet. Research proves that if you are on a calorie control diet and are trying to loose fat on your abdomen you will be successful if you have a glass of milk in the night or between your meals.

Milk and dairy reduces the risk of high blood pressure due to the presence of potassium, magnesium and calcium. Studies also show that diets rich in milk show lower signs of cancer and heart attacks.

It is recommended that you drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water daily. As mil is high in water content drinking mil takes care of a part of your daily fluid intake.

It is amazing that although milk has so many healing powers yet adults and children alike refuse to drink a glass of milk like it is the enemy.

If you are unable to get your child to drink a glass of milk then try blending it with a seasonal fruit to add value to it. Mangoes, strawberries and watermelons make a perfect add on to your shake. You could also try blending a few raisins or dry fruits like figs to make an extremely rich smoothie at home. If all else fails, ice creams always does the trick while it serves the purpose.
